Riot Games Reported Layoffs Are Not New [UPDATED]

UPDATE: Despite just being reported on February 14 via the WARN Notice, a representative of Riot Games tells Insider Gaming that they are not new layoffs.

“Riot Games is not laying off another 336 employees,” the rep said. “This number is already reflected in the 530 reductions that was announced in January.”

ORIGINAL: Riot Games is set to layoff 336 people, according to a California WARN notice.

The layoffs involve the Los Angeles and Redwood City locations of the company, and will happen by March 25. There’s no word as to what departments of the company have been directly impacted.

The news comes less than a month after the company announced the layoffs of 530 people alongside the closure of the Riot Forge label. The last game from Riot Forge will be Bandle Tale: A League of Legends Story, which launches on February 21.

At the time, the 530 people accounted for 11% of the company. It’s now up to 866 people let go within a month from a company that said back in January that it made “bad bets” as it tried to grow from 2019.

In January, CEO Dylan Jadeja said that Riot was “a company without a sharp enough focus”.

Insider Gaming has reached out to Riot Games for comment on the latest round of layoffs. Should a response be received, it will be added to this story.
