Resident Evil Producer Tips Future Japan Setting For The Franchise

A producer on the Resident Evil franchise has tipped the series for a future game to be based in Japan, claiming that “everyone on the dev team has probably thought about it.”

The franchise has seen games spread across the world, having featured fictionalised locations in the United States, Europe, Africa, and China, but has yet to see a game based in Japan.

However, producer Masato Kumazawa believes a game based in the homeland of the development team could take place in the future.

Resident Evil Franchise Tipped For Japan Setting

In an interview with Futaman, translated by IGN, Kumazawa states that “every Japanese Resident Evil fan has definitely thought about a Japan setting,” and that he has “also considered it” himself.

Additionally, he believes that, as the series is “primarily developed by staff in Japan, everyone on the dev team has probably thought about it.”

Finally, he stated his belief that “even though Japan hasn’t appeared as a setting for the games yet,” he believes it could appear “at some point in the future.”

The Eastern area of the globe is currently in the midst of a huge boom in video games, with Asian developers bringing a host of titles based in the region to the market, while major franchises from the West have also set recent games in the continent.

The likes of Black Myth: Wukong and Ghost of Tsushima have raised the interest levels for the region, while the likes of Assassin’s Creed and Forza Horizon have recently brought the franchise to the continent.

Call of Duty is also heading to the region this year with Modern Warfare 4, with a fictional story about a regional conflict that has huge global impact, and many other major games are also set to feature an Asian setting.

One day, perhaps Resident Evil will be among them.
