I’ll be the first to admit that, during that initial boss fight against Bullguard, I used more of my healing gourd than expected before the cutscene triggers. But hey, that’s part of learning the game. Here’s how to replenish your gourd in Black Myth: Wukong!
How to Refill Your Healing Gourd
Currently, the best way to refill your healing gourd in Black Myth: Wukong, so far as we’ve found in our early gameplay, is by visiting a shrine. You’ll typically find one shrine per area. Numerous enemies and potential bosses offer up a challenge between you and the next shrine. Using up your entire healing gourd is easy as you learn the game’s fighting mechanics.
As you progress deeper into Chapter 1, you’ll encounter a wise master who will upgrade your gourd to suck up the left-behind souls of those who came before you. You know, those large balls of light floating in the air. As you consume those, there’s a chance they will refill your gourd, as will defeating a challenging enemy.
That said, if you sip sparingly, you should make it to the next shrine with half or one-quarter of your gourd leftover for emergencies. But hey, there’s no shame if you must use your entire healing item in the game. It’s brand-new, after all. We’re all learning its mechanics and combat flow!

How to Expand Your Gourd
To start, the easiest way to expand your gourd in Black Myth: Wukong, especially at the beginning of the game, is to claim the pre-order bonus waiting for you at your first shrine. If you pre-ordered the game, you’ll have the Trailblazer’s Scarlet Gourd. It’s a more potent version of the game’s starting healing gourd, restoring an additional 33% of your Maximum Health with every sip.
That said, those sips run out quickly. If you’re not careful, you’ll run out of your healing gourd no matter what.
