Early in 2022, a development studio by the name of Rebel Wolves surfaced, and it was subsequently revealed that it was founded by former CD Projekt Red developers. This team, which has experience working on the likes of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, is reportedly crafting a dark fantasy RPG set in a huge open world, according to research completed by ‘Kurakasis’ on Twitter.
It has been almost two years since Rebel Wolves went public, and since then, very little has been revealed regarding its first game, which will kick off an ‘AAA IP, story-driven saga for PCs and next-gen consoles’.
What’s Dawnwalker?
Thanks to the extensive research compiled by Kurakasis on Twitter, it seems as though the title and some more information about Rebel Wolves’ first project have made their way into the open. For instance, through some domain registrations and published trademarks, it looks as though the first game will be titled Dawnwalker: Origins. It’s set to be a story-driven RPG that takes place in a dark fantasy universe, and it’s being built in UE5.
In a job description uncovered by Kurakasis, there was a nod to the game being an open-world title, which gives us some idea of the scope of the project. In an article posted in 2022, it was referenced that Dawnwalker won’t be as ‘gigantic as The Witcher’, but it will offer more quests.
Kurakasis, armed with the fruits of his investigation, posted a series of points about the game:
- It’s now entering the Alpha stage
- It won’t feature microtransactions
- It has a team of 100 people working on it
- It won’t feature platform-exclusive items or quests
There are no further indications of when Dawnwalker – if that’s truly the name of the game – will be revealed, or when it might be released.
