In an official blog post today, the PUBG: Battlegrounds devs announced that the Erangel Classic map is coming to both PC and consoles in May, but only for a limited time.
Erangel Classic will be available on PC between May 14th and May 28th. The map also roll out on consoles from May 23rd to June 6th. Both events will end at 7 AM UTC on the final day.
PUBG isn’t just bringing back the Erangel classic map, but also its features. This includes the rainy weather, bench weapons, and reduced recoil. Surprisingly, even the UI will revert back to its prior state, which will surely amuse longtime players.
PUBG: Battlegrounds recently celebrated its 7th anniversary last month with a 2024 roadmap. The devs are planning on overhauling the game, reworking the matchmaking and anti-cheat systems, ranked mode, and more.
However, Erangel’s classic return is certainly a welcome surprise, even if it does draw comparisons to Fortnite OG. Fortunately, today’s blog post adds that Erangel will still maintain “a few modern tweaks.” So, as expected, modern gameplay won’t be utterly compromised.
The devs didn’t elaborate on which mechanics to expect. But they did announce that “full details on all the throwbacks” will be revealed in Patch Notes on May 13th, right before PC players drop in.
In January, Krafton also announced plans to franchise PUBG, so players are surely pleased to see continued updates for the core game.
