PS Plus Users Can Get One of the Best Open-World Zombie Games For Free This Month

From August 4 to 31, PlayStation Plus subscribers can download and keep one of the best open-world zombie games ever made for free. In 2022, Techland released Dying Light 2: Stay Human, and while it proved to be divisive at launch, it has evolved into a well-rounded and extremely entertaining end-of-the-world slasher by today.

This month, you can get Dying Light 2: Stay Human Reloaded Edition for free if you’re a PlayStation Plus subscriber, which is something I hugely recommend taking advantage of. Once upon a time, Techland promised Dying Light 2 would have ‘500 hours of content’, and how the game has unravelled means that they weren’t entirely wrong about that.

Dying Light 2: Stay Human is Better Than Ever

Dying Light 2: Stay Human split the community at launch, and recently, Techland made a major change to the game’s tutorial phase that left fans divided. The team removed a beloved character from the game’s introduction in a move that was supposed to streamline things, but it left fans dismayed at the disappearance of the character, a throwback presence from the first Dying Light game.

Over the last four-or-so years, Dying Light 2 has evolved, plugged by countless content updates, a major expansion, and a UGC initiative that has broadened the game’s horizons immeasurably. What you’re getting into with Dying Light 2: Stay Human is a masterful expansion of the universe established in 2015, and a perfect introduction to 2025’s Dying Light: The Beast.

This month’s free PlayStation Plus games offering includes Dying Light 2: Stay Human Reloaded Edition, which means you’ll be getting the best version of the game as it stands today. When it was released, the Reloaded Edition introduced a wealth of improvements:

  • Better combat feedback
  • Improved parkour mechanics
  • New difficulty options
  • New content drops
  • Better performance
  • More atmospheric lighting

And it came bundled with Bloody Ties, the game’s first (and only) major piece of DLC. There was supposed to be a second expansion, but that became Dying Light: The Beast, seen by many as being Dying Light 3.

In Dying Light 2: Stay Human, you’re getting a massive and dense world packed with incredible elements of verticality and depth. You can ascend to the tallest skyscrapers or plunge into the underground, taking on endless hordes of zombies, mutants, bandits, and other threats.

The side content runs wild in Dying Light 2: Stay Human, and you’ll be able to occupy your time rescuing survivors, clearing out bandit dens, recapturing power stations, and deciding the fate of the city around you, determining which faction will run the town.

It’s also perfect for cooperative play, and Techland spent a lot of time fleshing out a ‘Tower Raid’ mode that allows users to progress through a side mode that is kind of like an extraction title. It gets harder the longer you play, and it’ll test your skills as the ultimate survivor.

And, as I mentioned, there’s a massive push for UGC in Dying Light 2: Stay Human, with Techland empowering the most talented creators to build full-fledged experiences that they merchandise in-game for the world to enjoy.

Not only that, but Dying Light 2: Stay Human looks gorgeous, has a sweet photomode to explore, and has a library of cosmetics and other purchaseable items that aren’t all that expensive at all. I’ve sunk hundreds of hours into Dying Light 2: Stay Human, and this month, so can you – for free.
