Post Malone May Have Just Spent $2M On An MTG Card

In June, a series of cards was released for Magic: The Gathering – The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth, and hidden among them was something legendary. There was a line-up of cards that offered players the opportunity to wield ‘The One Ring’, but there were four different forms – one of which was a serialised one of one – truly The One Ring.

It was special in every way, and it sat there, waiting for one lucky player – or savvy collector – to bust open a pack and secure it. It was found and certified after around a week on the market, and immediately, bids came flying in thick and fast, with some going as high as $2 million.

Hours ago, Post Malone met the owner and purchased that card – but how much did he spend on it?

Post Malone Has Nerd Money

Post Malone is well known for his nerdy attributes. He’s a big gamer and a collector, and he loves Magic: The Gathering. It comes as little surprise that he’d want to get his hands on a one-of-a-kind, never before seen MTG card.

In a short clip posted on TikTok, we see Post Malone meeting Brook Trafton, the now-previous owner of The One Ring card. He evaluates the card (while obviously elated), and agrees to buy it there and then, causing Trafton to essentially collapse into a flood of tears. It hasn’t been confirmed exactly how much Malone has paid for the card, but we can safely assume it was a hefty amount.

Here’s the clip:

@brooktrafton

When I found the One Ring, the first person who came to mind was @Post Malone. I have played MTG since I was a kid and obviously it would be amazing to keep this card. But for a guy like me, being able to sell it is life changing. I just really hoped it would go to someone who would appreciate it as much as I do. This is my dream come true, meeting Post Malone and him buying the One Ring card from me is literally a moment straight out of a fairytale. Post Malone @Magic: The Gathering you have changed my life. Things like this don’t happen to people like me, I guess it’s magic. I am forever grateful 🙏 ✨  #postmalone #onering #oneofone #mtg #magic #mint #psa #card #magicthegathering #lordoftherings #trading #tradingcards #theonering #sauron #collector #edition #one #gandalf #tradingcardgame

Online, fans are celebrating the fact that the card was found by an honest player it was then sold on to an honest player – it’s a wholesome exchange all-round. It’s likely that a life-changing sum of money changed hands, and reportedly, Trafton said that he’d wanted to meet Post Malone and offer him the sale of the card since the moment he found it in a chance pack.

What do you think? Would you pay $2 million for a truly unique, one-of-a-kind MTG card?
