Pokémon Horizons: The Series is now slated to premiere its English version on Netflix on February 23rd, 2024, according to a new tweet. The new series centers on the new protagonists Liko and Roy. Pokémon also released an official trailer, teasing a variety of characters and plot points.
Today’s release date is likely to disappoint longtime Pokémon fans. Pokémon Horizons has already been around for a while in Japan, so February 2024 feels rather belated.
By comparison, the UK is getting an English dub sometime next month, which an official tweet announced earlier this month. It’ll be available on BBC iPlayer and CBBC.
The Netflix release will also lose the opportunity to cash in on the renewed interest of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s next DLC. Hopefully, this implies that February 2024 could have other big Pokémon news.
Part 2 of the DLC, Indigo Disk, is slated to launch on December 16th. The new generation of games in the flagship series has been divisive.
Fans have been unhappy with the plain storytelling and characters. Ideally, Pokémon Horizons will take the opportunity to better develop those undercooked ideas. And the nostalgic appeal of the Indigo Disk DLC shouldn’t be underestimated.
At the very least, today’s official Netflix trailer does look decent. The non-English version of Pokémon Horizons has consistently received strong ratings.
That is both a surprise and a relief, as the massive franchise moves ahead without Ash for the first time. It was a monumental task to overcome the strange parting of ways with the original series’ classic duo.
The English performances for Pokémon Horizons seem solid, though purists might also be concerned about the soundtrack changes.
