Nintendo has unveiled a brand new showmatch tournament, Champion of Champions, for Pokémon Champions will take place in London July 29.
The tournament will feature eight players all coached by Video Game Championships (VGC) competitor and three-time Pokémon World Champion, Ray Rizzo.
The winner will earn a trip to the 2027 Pokémon World Championships event and a charitable donation made in their name to a charity of their choice.
However, don’t let all the mentions of champions fool you; this isn’t a highly competitive event. This is a showmatch with champions in rather unique and unexpected disciplines…

Pokémon Champions – Champion of Champions Competitors
Half of the event’s competitors have already been confirmed:
- Whistling Champion – Ayna Ziordia Botella [Spain]
- Pizza Acrobatics Champion – Nicola Matarazzo [Italy]
- Pillow Fighting Champion – Leandro Silva [USA]
- Doing Nothing Champion – Denis Kwan Hong-Wang [Hong Kong]
Yes, all of those accolades are real.
Hong-Wang genuinely won a competition with around 100 competitors who all sat still on a yoga mat and did nothing for 90 minutes, no sleeping, no noise, no checking phones.
Botella is the best whistler in the world, having won 1st place at the Master of Whistling in Hollywood in 2023.

Leandro Silva is a professional MMA fighter who also competed in and won the completely serious Pillow Fight Championship (PFC).
And earlier this year, Matarazzo placed first at the World Pizza Championship for his impressive dough tossing and tricks.
