Hours ago, it was revealed that Paradox was cancelling Life by You, the ambitious competitor to The Sims that had been developing since 2019. In a statement released by the company, it was revealed that the road ahead would have been too unpredictable to weather, and given that the game had already been delayed several times, it came time to call it quits. This news came shortly after the game’s early access period was delayed.
Now, Paradox Interactive has announced that Paradox Tectonic, the studio working on Life by You, will be shut down entirely, with 24 employees impacted by the closure.
Another One
In a short statement published on the Paradox Interactive website, it was written:
‘Paradox Interactive has decided to cease further operations in the wholly owned studio Paradox Tectonic (Tectonic) in Berkeley, California. The studio has since 2019 led the development of the game Life by You, whose release is cancelled, and employs 24 people.
This is difficult and drastic news for our colleagues at Tectonic, who’ve worked hard on Life by You’s Early Access release. Sadly, with (the) cancellation of their sole project, we have to take the tough decision to close down the studio. We are deeply grateful for their hard work in trying to take Paradox into a new genre.’
It’s a move that many saw coming from the moment Life by You was cancelled, given that it has been the studio’s sole focus for the last five years. It isn’t yet known what’ll happen to the employees, whether they’ll fall under other Paradox-focused banners or simply be laid off.
