With the ongoing Steam Next Fest, which allows players a chance to download and check out various demos for upcoming games, folks find themselves drawn to Once Human. It was the first demo downloaded, and I’m finding it absolutely fantastic. But there’s a question in the air. Is Once Human Early Access?
Is Once Human Early Access or Full Release?
When Once Human officially releases on July 9, it will do so as a full-release title. Unlike most other survival-crafting games on the market today, the upcoming open-world survival shooter will not launch into Early Access.
It’s a fresh take and one we’re wholly open to. The current gameplay is satisfying, the creature designs are phenomenal, and, with a little more polish, it’ll prove itself as a long-term survival game for fans of the genre!

How to Survive in Once Human
When you first dive into Once Human, either in the beta during Steam Next Fest or upon launch in early July, you’ll find the prologue rather welcoming. It does a fantastic job of smoothly introducing you to the gameplay mechanics, loot, and overall story beats. But then you’re thrust into the open world alongside a magical crow and told to survive. Here are a few tips:
- While you won’t die of hunger or thirst immediately upon touching down, it’s a wise move to keep food and water in your inventory for when times get tough. After all, this is a survival game. You require both to operate at peak efficiency.
- While playing on a PvE server, don’t be afraid to make a friend or two. You can group up to tackle challenging points of interest, share loot, or even build a small community together in the open world. Even better is you can ask for help!
- Your starting crossbow is excellent at dealing with shambling zombies and Watchers, but you’ll require smoothing with more oomph before long. Do your best to seek out a better weapon, ideally a firearm, quickly!
Alongside Once Human, there’s a handful of quality demos we recommend from Steam Next Fest! Before you dive into one, don’t forget to sign up for the Insider Gaming Newsletter!
