On Tuesday night, rumors began to circulate that Arrowhead Game Studios, the developers being Helldivers 2 had been sold to PlayStation.
The rumors included claims that an announcement of the sale was “coming soon”.
Eventually, they got to Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt on Twitter. He was then quick to shut down any claims of a sale.
“This is fake. Unless I’ve missed something,” he said. “Also, a really shitty old logo from 2008 or so when we just started the studio.”
In another reply on the site he said that a sale to Sony, he said, “This is the first I hear of this”.
Published by Sony under its PlayStation Studios, Helldivers 2 is exclusively available on PlayStation 5 and PC. It’s launch on PC — which a max concurrent player total of 458,709 — quickly became the biggest PlayStation Studios PC launch in its short history. The game continues to see over 300,000 players concurrently on PC almost daily.
Arrowhead also dropped a new patch for the game on Wednesday, featuring a number of fixes and weapon tweaks.
