In a new trailer released today, Player First Games revealed new MultiVersus gameplay featuring Beetlejuice and confirmed they will join the roster on August 20, 2024.
The trailer showcases some of Beetlejuice’s kit as an Assassin class fighter, an archetype that only offers a few other characters like Arya Stark and Marvin the Martian. It also reveals new voice lines, interactions, and potential cosmetics.
The new trailer closes with a brief nod to Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the upcoming movie sequel. Director Tim Burton returns for the film, which premieres in early September this year.
Today’s announcement for August follows just a month after leaker AusilMV claimed that MultiVersus could add Beetlejuice sometime soon.
That lends more validity to AusilMV’s previous leaks from May 2024, which teased even more potential characters and stages. They claimed they found these additions by datamining the game.
Beetlejuice’s moveset features a variety of thematic abilities, like falling into a coffin or transforming hands into a weapon. Most notably, that also includes the addition of the sandworm, iconic enough to be worked into the popcorn bucket merch for the upcoming film.
Late last July, Warner Bros. Games officially acquired MultiVersus developer Player First Games. The developer’s co-founder Tony Huynh said that “having our development team integrated with the publisher is optimum for the players.”
