Mortal Kombat 1 Revealed, Launches September 19th

Mortal Kombat 1 has finally been revealed, following a potential slip-up that saw the website go live with the new information ahead of time. There have been plenty of teasers dropped on social media leading up to this point, but it’s finally here – and it looks equal part brutal and incredible.

It was revealed that Mortal Kombat 1 will be a ‘rebirth’ of the series, with the Mortal Kombat timeline having been reformed by the God of Fire, Liu Kang. From the reveal trailer that was dropped, it looks as though we’re going back in time to an era earlier than any we’ve seen yet in franchise history.

Read on to check out what’s coming in Mortal Kombat 1 and to see the reveal trailer.

Before Time

In the short but sweet reveal trailer, a peaceful, tranquil scene opens up, but it’s quickly disrupted by the arrival of Liu Kang, and before we know it, we’re plunged into aggression, bearing witness to unbridled, unadulterated gore – and it’ll likely only get more violent when the game releases on September 19th, 2023.

There are several characters shown in the half-action-packed trailer, including Liu Kang, Raiden, Kitana, Mileena, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Shang-Tsung. It has been noted that Shang-Tsung will be a pre-order bonus character.

Here’s the trailer for your enjoyment:

Mortal Kombat 1 is said to feature a unique fighting system called Kameo that will see ‘partner characters’ make an appearance mid-fight to offer assistance. Ed Boon, the co-founder of Mortal Kombat, explained that Kameo content will be revealed very soon, and it’ll be shown exactly how this feature will expand the roster of fighters.

So, what do you think? Is Mortal Kombat 1 a must-buy?

  • We’re still using mid oughts dusty dingy color tones instead of brightening it up? No thanks Ed, keep your sepia tones.

  • I never knew you could comment here. This is a must buy for me for sure. Loved MK since Deadly Alliance. Very much prefer it to the other fighting games. Hyped personally.
