Modern Warfare 2 First Free Weekend to Start in December

Sources, with knowledge of Activision plans, have said that Modern Warfare 2 will have its first free multiplayer weekend starting on December 15.

It was said that Modern Warfare 2’s Season 1 mid-season update will start on December 14, with the free multiplayer weekend starting on December 15 to the early hours [GMT timezone] of December 19.

Unfortunately, no details on what the mid-season update will contain were given, but the multiplayer map “Shipment” is scheduled to return.

In addition to no official updates so far, Activision is yet to announce a Double XP weekend for Modern Warfare 2, which by now the publisher has usually announced.

However, in addition to the Modern Warfare 2 mid-season update, Insider Gaming has also been told that an update for Black Ops Cold War will also be released on December 6. It’s currently unclear if this will be a standard patch or add new content to the game.

As a part of The World Cup, it’s expected that Modern Warfare 2 will soon be getting a new gamemode called “COD Ball” where players can drive ATVs to score a large ball (almost identically to Rocket League).

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported earlier this month that Sledgehammer Games will be developing year 2 of Modern Warfare 2, which is believed to be a “premium title” and cost players the same as a full-priced game ($70).

No official information has been released by Activision on their plans for 2023, apart from the company is planning on releasing a premium title.
