It has been revealed that Midnight Society, the studio working on DEADROP, a ‘vertical’ extraction shooter, has been forced to lay off ‘roughly 50%’ of the development team. Midnight Society rocketed into a prolific position almost three years ago when it was revealed that Guy ‘Dr Disrespect’ Beahm was a founding member of the studio.
In the years that followed, the controversial creator helped build Midnight Society’s brand and pull players into the world of DEADROP, which many doubted was ‘legit’ because it leant on NFTs as a foundation. Following the recent allegations levelled against Dr Disrespect, the studio has been forced to lay off 50% of its development team.
Knock On Impact
In a message pulled from Midnight Society’s Discord server, Robert ‘fourzerotwo’ Bowling, one of the studio’s founders, explained:
As most of you know, we have faced multiple unexpected challenges in recent months. To adapt to these changes and secure the future of Midnight Society, DEADROP, and our commitment to providing innovative gaming experiences, we’ve made the tough decision to streamline our operations, which includes a significant workforce reduction.
He went on to stress that DEADROP is still set to be released in 2025 and that the team will spend time compiling revised plans and a fresh roadmap. However, the vast majority of the comments posted in response to this message stood in solidarity with Dr Disrespect, the disgraced streamer who recently admitted to inappropriately messaging a minor on Twitch in 2017.
One user wrote, ‘Hopefully the entire company shuts down fully, jumping to conclusions on Doc.’
Another user called out Cody Conners, the former Twitch employee who kickstarted all this drama in June by posting publically about Dr Disrespect’s permanent Twitch ban.

When the revelations about Dr Disrespect were aired, it was claimed that he was an influencer for Midnight Society and nothing more. The concern now is that his profile as an influencer was so impactful that DEADROP will fail miserably as the vast majority of people getting involved were only doing so because of Dr Disrespect.

Except Dr disrespect admitted to the wrongdoing. Midnight Society is laying off staff because with or without Dr disrespect they were doomed to fail because the game is a really shitty asset flip. They spent enough time and money on the game that they felt confident to call it a beta but it isn’t even an alpha yet. It’s a functional build test at best.
Get woke, go broke. Virtue signaling doesn’t pay the bills. I’m not a fan of Dr Disrespect. I’ll admit that I don’t remotely see the appeal. But there’s no denying that it exists. He seems to have just as many fans now as before. They don’t care. That’s the fact. And that built in customer base is gone. So yeah, if you alienate most of your customers, your business is probably going to fail.
Another dead on arrival shooter nice. Just cancel it now lmfao. You can tell the intelligence level of the consumers anyway, by who points out Doc wasn’t messaging a minor since the age of consent was 16, going to be a CoD open mic garbage game.
It’s not illegal to message minors and there has been no court case, let alone a conviction. Also, not a shred of evidence has come out. These commentators are on a witch hunt so they can show how morally just they are instead of looking at actual law and evidence. It’s a sad thing how much of an effect a rumor can have.
