Speaking with gamesindustry.biz in a pre-briefing call with Take-Two, CEO Strauss Zelnick has said that he believes mid-gen console refreshes are likely.
Zelnick was asked if we should expect mid-generation console refreshes this time around, and whether or not they impacted Take-Two’s business in the previous generation.
Zelnick replied, “We probably will, and they did not affect the business very much.”
In March 2023, we exclusively reported that Sony is currently developing a PlayStation 5 Pro and that the console is currently scheduled to release in Holiday 2024. At the moment though, Insider Gaming has been unable to verify whether or not Xbox is developing a mid-generation console refresh.
The refresh could tie in with the suspected release date of GTA 6, too. Following a record-breaking year for Take-Two, in terms of financial performance, the company announced during yesterday’s earnings call that even loftier goals have been put in place for the year ahead. Such goals have led fans to speculate that the huge increase in earnings is likely because of a GTA 6 release.
“Looking ahead, fiscal 2025 is a highly anticipated year for our company. For the last several years, we have been preparing our business to release an incredibly robust pipeline of projects that we believe will take our company to even greater levels of success. In fiscal 2025, we expect to enter this new era by launching several groundbreaking titles that we believe will set new standards in our industry and enable us to achieve over $8 billion in net bookings”, it was said.
