Max Payne Remakes Have a Budget Similar to Alan Wake 2

In a new financial release, Remedy Entertainment confirmed that the Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes are “enabled by a similar development budget as Alan Wake 2”.

The release also states that “the team made considerable progress throughout the year”. So, the remakes still appear to be on track. This lines up with previous reports.

Remedy added that alongside other titles, the Max Payne 1&2 remakes will “advance to the next stages of development during the first half of 2024”. So, Remedy could confirm more release information sometime soon.

Max Payne Original Game Shootout

Surprisingly, Remedy Entertainment revenue fell by 22.2% in 2023. Alan Wake 2 released in October 2023 to rave reviews, and it was reportedly Remedy’s “fastest selling game” to date.

Alan Wake also won Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, and Best Art Direction at The Game Awards 2023.

Remedy recently lowered the minimum PC specs for Alan Wake 2, a rare and customer-friendly move. Players with older setups can now enjoy the game at a lower performance, too.

Some previous reports suggest that Alan Wake 2 had a budget of around $75 million. Since the remakes of Max Payne 1 & 2 will have a similar budget to Alan Wake 2, fans might expect the same level of quality.

Max Payne certainly deserves it, as a classic series and a Remedy Entertainment staple. However, some fans might be concerned about Remedy’s future titles if they keep investing so much while losing revenue.

But it’s unclear just how close the remakes’ budget truly is to Alan Wake 2. The studio did not confirm an exact number.

Remedy will release the Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne remakes as a single title. Remedy partnered with Rockstar Games for development.
