Marvel Rivals Cross-Progression Discussions Have ‘Launched’

Cross-Progression discussions for Marvel Rivals have ‘launched’, according to game director Guangguang, though Insider Gaming understands plans are still in the early stages.

Since launch last year, demand for cross-progression support in Marvel Rivals has been constant, particularly as the Closed Alpha Test, with exclusive rewards, was PC only. As such, anyone who participated in the CAT that now prefers to play on console cannot take advantage of their bonuses.

Cross-progression is very much at the forefront of the developer’s minds, however, but implementation into the game could still be a way off.

Speaking to Insider Gaming at the Marvel Rivals Ignite Mid-Season Finals in Guangzhou, Guangguang deferred a question on cross-progression to the recently launched Discord community event asking players to submit their ideas.

Cross-progression is the main focus of the new ‘Ask the Devs’ event for Marvel Rivals, which began August 8, with players asked to submit their ideas, ask questions, and shape the future of the game. The event will end on August 22.

Guangguang informed Insider Gaming that feedback from the event will be collected and the team will “discuss internally” to come up with ideas, which suggests plans, if there are any, are still in a very early stage.

That means cross-progression in Marvel Rivals could still be a while off, particularly as Guangguang previously outlined to Insider Gaming how new characters “around a year” to develop. While cross-progression is unlikely to have the same amount of developmental stages as a new character, it certainly doesn’t seem like it’s something that could be added imminently.

The good news, however, is the Discord event is further evidence that Netease is keeping a close eye on community discussion to shape development, and the new event could open the door to more direct forms of feedback in the future.

Should cross-progression be at the top of the developer’s priorities for Marvel Rivals? Let us know your thoughts in the Insider Gaming forum.
