Midway through 2023, Dragami Games revealed that Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, the remaster of the 2012 zombie slasher, was being delayed into 2024. Fast forward to today, and we still don’t have much news regarding the release of this scandalous, gory game. That’s about to change, though.
It was recently announced that a full reveal of Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP will take place on June 13, with the team confirming the release date and platform spread and showing off the game’s first trailer.
There’s a Trend
In the comments under the post from Yoshimi Yasuda that revealed this news is a commonality of sorts. Many users are begging for Dragami Games to release Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP in full uncensored fashion, with some praying that ‘Sony doesn’t ruin it’. In 2012, Lollipop Chainsaw was released to a positive reception but became the butt of a controversy based on the lead character’s appearance and outfits – mostly skimpy cheerleading costumes.
Earlier this year, Stellar Blade was released on PlayStation and faced similar comments on account of the protagonist’s body being based on that of a South Korean beauty model.
There are high expectations for Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP. More than a decade ago, the game offered an entertaining and brutal story that saw players acrobatically slicing and slashing through hordes of zombies – it was mindless fun, but it was a hit with players worldwide. There’s little depth to Lollipop Chainsaw, but there is an unlockable achievement that users can secure for successfully peeking up Juliet’s skirt, so there’s that.
We’ll know more on June 13.
