Bots and Scalpers Are Ruining LoL Worlds Ticket Sales

Riot Games has just announced a postponement of ticket sales for the Worlds Final in London, England. In a post on social media, the team revealed that ‘significant bot activity’ is impacting the pre-sales of tickets for the League of Legends World Championship final, which is set to be held at the O2 Arena on November 2.

Nothing is Sacred

The League of Legends World Championship tournament is arguably the biggest esports event in the yearly calendar, pulling in tens of millions of viewers around the world. It holds the record for the most-viewed tournament in history, and it boasts a prize pool worth a staggering $2.25 million.

Unfortunately, that level of popularity means that scalpers are using bots to mass purchase tickets for the grand final event, due to take place at the O2 Arena in London on November 2. Following the disruption caused by bots, Riot Games has opted to postpone a round of pre-sales to resolve the issue:

After discovering significant bot activity impacting our pre-sales over the last 48 hours, we’ve taken the difficult but necessary decision to temporarily postpone the final round of ticket sales for the Worlds Final.

We’re working to resolve the issue and will update you as soon as we can. We’re also identifying tickets purchased by bots so we can get them back into the hands of actual fans.

Fans who have already purchased tickets for the Worlds Final legitimately are unaffected. However, if you believe your purchase has been impacted, please contact AXS customer service so they can assist in troubleshooting your issue.

Thanks fo your patience as work through this — our goal is to ensure a fair and smooth ticketing process for everyone.

With each successive year, the League of Legends World Championship becomes more ambitious. This year’s event is proving to be no different, and there is less than a month until the trophy is lifted by one of the best League teams on Earth.
