The first details of the 2027 League of Legends World Championship have been revealed by the Korea e-Sports Association (KeSPA).
Riot Games had already confirmed that next year’s LoL Worlds tournament will take place in South Korea and now KeSPA is looking to lock in host cities for the major esports event.
Local Korean governments hoping to host any of the tournament are requested to email KeSPA by April 6, 2026. The organisation also expects at least 10,000 live fans for the final.
Interestingly, KeSPA only mentions the Knockout Stages as needing a host city, which could potentially mean that a venue has already been secured for the Play-In and Swiss Stages.
This likely means that the early stages of tournaments will be held in Riot’s own LoL Park venue in Seoul, a small venue much like the Riot Games Arena in Berlin, which was used for the same stage of LoL Worlds 2024.
South Korea has hosted three LoL World Championships in the past: 2014, 2018, and 2023, with Seoul, Busan, Gwangju, and Incheon having all hosted LoL Worlds games in the past.
LoL Worlds 2026 USA Doubts
Before the 2027 iteration, this year’s LoL Worlds tournament will be hosted in the United States of America, with the final hosted in New York City and the rest of the tournament taking place in Allen, Texas.
America is a polarising choice as a host nation, with mounting political tensions involving US Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Donald Trump, leaving some with doubts on how safe it is to visit the country.
Visa issues have also stopped various esports and traditional sports athletes from participating in US-based events, like Canadian LoL top laner ‘ZamudoFrankie’ Lin, who has been unable to compete in the LCS despite joining LYON earlier in the year.
LoL Worlds 2027 First Details
According to KeSPA, the tentative dates for next year’s LoL Worlds Championships are Friday, October 15, 2027, to Sunday, November 14, 2027.
The Quarterfinals and Semifinals are set to take place between Tuesday, November 2 and Sunday, November 9, 2027.
LoL Worlds 2027 will apparently have a prize pool of $5m USD, excluding skin sales, and it will seemingly follow the usual format of a Swiss Stage leading into the brutal single-elimination Knockout Stages.
