In January, the servers for LittleBigPlanet 3 were taken down temporarily while the team at Sumo Digital worked on pesky technical issues that were making the game unplayable online. Now, it has been revealed that as a result of those issues, Sumo is keeping the servers for the game offline forever. The game is now listed on PlayStation’s site as being ‘decommissioned’, and a statement explains what the state of play is for the 2014 game.
An Important Message
On Twitter, the LittleBigPlanet team posted ‘an important message’ about the future of LittleBigPlanet 3:
Due to ongoing technical issues which resulted in the LittleBigPlanet 3 servers for PS4 being taken offline temporarily in January 2024, the decision has been made to keep the servers offline indefinitely.
All online services including access to other players’ creations for LittleBigPlanet 3 are no longer available.
User generated content stored locally on your PS4 will remain avaialble. Any new UGC you created can be played on your PS4 but not shared. Offline features such as the campaign will remain playable.
Thank you for your support.
In the comments below the serious update, the team thanked the community for their ‘continued love and support over the years’.
This now marks the sunsetting of the last LittleBigPlanet game, as the only other titles released in the franchise since 2014 were spin-offs that didn’t share the LBP titling. Fans of the franchise, which started on PlayStation 3 in 2008, are understandably disappointed by this news and are urging someone, somewhere to reveal LittleBigPlanet 4.
