Isabela Merced has officially joined the cast of HBO’s The Last Of Us live-action series for season 2, according to a new tweet from streaming service Max.
Merced is expected to play the role of Dina, a memorable character from The Last Of Us: Part II, and originally voiced by Shannon Woodward.
Fans may best recognize Isabela Merced for her roles in Transformers: The Last Knight, Dora and the Lost City of Gold. Most recently, they voiced ‘Kim’ in the animated film Migration.
The Last Of Us continues to round out its cast this week as production ramps up. Today’s news closely follows the announcement that Kaitlyn Dever was cast in the role of Abby for the upcoming season.
It’s hard to describe Dina without giving away too much, since she’s a central character.
But Dina does have a close relationship with Ellie. So, it’ll be important to capture the chemistry between them.
Similarly, Jesse played a big role in Dina’s life. HBO recently announced that Young Mazino would portray Jesse in season 2. You’ll likely know Mazino for their work on the hit dramedy Beef, as Paul Cho.
Credits like Transformers: The Last Knight may not thrill some The Last Of Us fans. However, Merced herself has turned out some excellent performances.
For example, they had a standout comedic role in Instant Family. She played the older daughter that the protagonists adopt, grounding the natural family tension and personal conflicts.
Isabela Merced should make a solid addition to The Last Of Us in season 2, even if some previous fan casting and expectations went in a different direction.
Given the pace of HBO’s announcements, even more characters may continue to be cast this week.
