In the original 2005 Resident Evil 4 (RE4), there was a memorable sequence in which Leon found a dog (or wolf) stuck in a bear trap. You could either free the dog, in which case it managed to run away despite the injury to its leg, or you could just leave it there whining to itself. Your decision made a difference to events later in the game, though. And, if you’ve not played Resident Evil 4 before, we should warn you now that there are potential SPOILERS AHEAD. In the original game, if you saved the dog, it would reappear later and help you in the boss battle against El Gigante. However, back in October 2022, Capcom released a gameplay trailer for the Resident Evil 4 remake in which Leon appears to find the very same dog in the very same bear trap, only the dog is… dead! And violently disembowelled. So fans were left wondering if the dog was going to be in The Resident Evil remake, other than as an item of particularly gory scenery. So, is the dog in the RE4 remake?
Is The Dog Alive or Dead in The Resident Evil 4 Remake?
The good news for fans of our fine furry friends is that Capcom was just cruelly toying with our emotions. At the beginning of Chapter 3 of the Resident Evil 4 remake, you leave the Village Chief’s Manor and head for the Insignia Key gate. But from the path along the side of the house you hear a distinct whining, and there it is… the Resident Evil 4 (RE4) dog! It’s stuck in a bear trap, albeit in a slightly different location to that in the original game. You can, as before, choose to free it, or to leave it to a slow, miserable death.
Should You Save The RE4 Dog in The Resident Evil 4 Remake?
You should definitely save the dog in the Resident Evil 4 Remake because, just as in the original game, it will help you against El Gigante if you do. There are no advantages in not saving the dog other than that you save about two minutes of your time.
