IO Interactive Has Interesting Response to 007: First Light’s Opening Mission Leaking Online

Physical copies of 007: First Light are already in the hands of aspiring agents, and as is always the case when this happens, some of its content has already made its way to the internet. This includes 007: First Light’s opening introductory mission, and developer IO Interactive has acknowledged the leak and even fired back.

007: First Light has been a long time coming, with the original announcement going as far back as 2020.

After six years in development and more, IO Interactive has a new series in its portfolio. There are elements of Hitman here, but it’s very much ‘Bond,’ and if you want to see it in action for yourself before the worldwide launch, you can—officially, too!

The opening mission of 007: First Light quickly circulated online after a player uploaded the entire opening mission to YouTube.

It was discovered, though, that only the first mission is playable, with the rest of the game requiring an online download. Meaning the disc is pretty much an empty conduit, a frequent occurrence in modern gaming.

However, if you try to watch the original YouTube video, you’ll see that it’s been struck down, with a message saying: ‘This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by IO Interactive A/S.’

I did say that IO has responded, and the developer has done so with a YouTube video of its own.

‘The First 13 Minutes of 007 First Light’ can be found on IO Interactive’s official YouTube channel. It’s exactly as advertised. The description has this to say:

‘Since a few users got hold of the disc early, watch the first 13 minutes of the opening mission in 007 First Light, as intended on day 1. Spoilers ahead, so if you’d rather save it for the in-game experience, best steer clear!’

To reiterate, this is the first 13 minutes of gameplay, and spoilers are inevitable. If you want to save the opening minutes for yourself, wait until launch.

If not, check out the footage; who knows, it might sell you on the game!

The Insider Gaming Showcase is around the corner—on May 28, to be exact. There will be 55 games, including 12 World Premieres, new trailers, and much more that you don’t want to miss.
