Insomniac Teases Venom Game After Spider-Man 2

Could a stand-alone Venom game be on the way after Marvel’s Spider-Man 2? According to senior narrative director Jon Paquette at Insomniac, it’s a possibility.

In an interview with Insider, Paquette hinted at a potential spin-off game centered around Venom now that Spider-Man 2 is out the door.

“I want this to be one of the best Venom stories you’ve ever experienced. We’ll see what the reviewers have to say,” he said.

He continued: “So, here’s what we’re doing. We’re focused on ‘Spider-Man 2,’ and what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna wait to see how the fans react,” he said. “We’re gonna listen to the fans and we’re gonna ask ourselves, ‘Okay, what do the fans really want?’

“We’ll kind of talk about stuff after we’ve all had time to sleep and take vacations.”

As far as a Venom story goes, the team at Insomniac looked to the character’s comic book iterations for Spider-Man 2. That’s likely where any more on Venom would come from, as well.

“There’s such a rich universe there, and there’s a lot that the comics have done. We tried to take all that in, and then forget about it, and think about what would be best for our characters and our franchise,” he said.

With Spider-Man 2 launching, Insomniac is set to move more into work on the upcoming Wolverine title for PlayStation 5.

  • No one wants that especially after the games ending. If this game was like the Ultimate stuff and Eddie had a close relationship with Peter and had been Venom first it would work but not now. If anything they should make a Spider-Man 2099 game. Worse case I guess they make a Agent Venom game and bring Flash in.

  • No talk to DC get the license to make those games I mean it’s clear they want to make a Superman game. Green Arrow, The Flash, and Batman Beyond would all be great.

    • They clearly wanted to make a Superman game. Lois and Superman’s family of heroes would fit better and Metropolis.

  • If it was Eddie then yes but not this. How they did Venom wasn’t good for comic fans. For the story it did what it needed to but it feels final. The problem with this game series is it’s confusing having Peter mentor Miles but not go through the amount of stuff that matured him in the comics which he now deals with and bringing in someone else as Venom would be weird in this universe. I guess they could bring in the last guy who wore it before Eddie came back? Even worse Cletus was in this game with no accent. Hybrid would work better for a game instead of Venom if they introduce him in another game like.

    • Next game is probably Green Goblin and Carnage then Red Goblin since Dan Slott is helping and Peter probably dies. If they wanted to do spin-offs like Venom they should plan better with the story, if this Spider-Man wasn’t so inexperienced and more things like clone saga happened then spin-offs could work. Agent Anti-Venom could happen with Flash.

  • A Moon Knight game with Punisher would work better and going back to the old Moon Knight comics prior to Bendis and Ellis.

  • How? Spoiler the symbiote was destroyed so I don’t see how. I don’t see how Carnage can show up either since they destroyed the meteor. The games story is complete trash.
