Huge Witcher 3 Expansion Mod Seeking New Voice Actor for Geralt

Earlier this week, a deep dive trailer was published for The WAR Project, an ambitious and chunky expansion project aimed at blowing open 2015’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The multi-award-winning title is no stranger to fan-made mod packs, but this latest attempt will bring to life cut content in an expansion with more than ten hours of runtime.

It’s set to introduce 12 quests, a new romance option for Geralt of Rivia, and updated locations that weren’t properly explored in the commercial release that landed more than a decade ago. However, the mod currently has no voice actor to supply lines for Geralt, the game’s protagonist, but auditions are being held now.

Witcher 3: The WAR Project Trailer Circulates Online

In a new video showcasing The WAR Project, the team behind this supersized mod takes a deep dive into everything you’d want to know about what’s coming. The mod isn’t expected to arrive in full until 2027, but there’s a small demo available now on Nexus Mods.

Per the mod’s background spiel, The WAR Project will revitalize some critical cut content, which was fragmented in the year before the game launched in 2015:

From 2013-2014, CD Projekt RED was working on a large questline for Witcher 3 internally referred to simply as “WAR”. It revolved around Geralt participating in efforts alongside Roche and his partisans to take down a Nilfgaardian medic known as Hector Kraft-Ebbing. It also involved characters such as Thaler and Ves, as well as returning characters Iorveth and Vincent Meis.

In late 2014, CDPR made the decision to cut the questline. Reasons as to why this decision was made often referred to the poor state of the questline at the time that couldn’t be resolved in time for release. That being said however, some remnants of this questline made it into the release version of Witcher 3 in re-written/altered state.

The mod involves the talents of eleven designers, developers, and other experts, such as those focusing on localization, but it doesn’t have any vocal talent. That was addressed in the video below, with the team outwardly requesting budding voice actors to step forward and support the project:

Fans of the franchise have praised the developers for seeking a human replication of Geralt of Rivia, rather than just leaning on artificial intelligence to copy the iconic tones of Doug Cockle, the long-time actor behind Geralt.

The trailer and breakdown talking about The WAR Project has racked up tens of thousands of views and countless positive impressions, so it safely has the backing of the community.
