How To Disable Crossplay in Black Ops 6 on PS5 and Xbox (Answered)

Recently, Treyarch revealed that crossplay mechanics in Black Ops 6 were getting a switch function that would enable you to turn them off, preventing you from matchmaking with PC players in Ranked Play. This is to combat the vast swathes of PC-based cheaters spoiling the fun for others, while on console, the malicious operators are much less commonplace.

In this guide, I’ll walk you through how to disable crossplay in Black Ops 6 on Xbox and PS5.

How to Turn off Crossplay in Black Ops 6

It’s important to stress that you’ve always been able to switch off crossplay in Black Ops 6, but it wasn’t until recently that you could turn off crossplay in Ranked Play. In that super-competitive mode, you were forced to match against PC players if you were on a console, and vice-versa.

Treyarch has now tweaked the mechanic to allow users to switch off crossplay in Ranked.

Here’s how to disable crossplay in Black Ops 6:

  • Launch your game and navigate to the main menu
  • Access the main settings menu (top-right of the screen)
  • Select ‘Settings’ and scroll to ‘Account & Network’, which is the last tab in the list
  • Select ‘Crossplay’ (at the top of the settings list) and switch it to ‘Off’

That’s all it takes.

Why is Call of Duty Crossplay?

Many have questioned why Call of Duty has crossplay mechanics when so many issues stem from matching console players with PC gamers.

For instance, the PC community is riddled with cheaters who regularly disrupt the entertainment of others, particularly in Ranked Play. Also, input-based matchmaking mechanics are slim, which means controller players will regularly match with keyboard and mouse users.

That’s why such a wildfire debate has surfaced in recent years concerning how ‘overpowered’ aim assist is in Call of Duty. Controller players have that while KBM players don’t.

Ultimately, Call of Duty is a crossplay-enabled series because it empowers the community to be as accessible and seamless as possible, bringing together players from all platforms. It just never really worked out as a super successful mechanic.
