You’ll be facing a lot of enemies in Romeo Is A Dead Man, but you don’t need to do it alone. A whole variety of Bastards are at your disposal, but to get them on your side, you’ll need to plant them first.
It might sound strange, having to grow your zombie-adjacent allies like a plant, but for a Suda51 game, it’s just another novelty. As odd as it might appear, though, it’s a crucial mechanic in Romeo Is A Dead Man, and if you want to keep progressing, you’ll want to keep upgrading your roster of Bastards.

How To Cultivate Bastards In Romeo Is A Dead Man
You can cultivate Bastards in Romeo Is A Dead Man in the garden on the Space-Time Ship, with help from your little sister Luna.
You’ll see various plots of land where you can plant Bastard Seeds. You can spend 1,000 Emerald Flowsion to add two extra plots, with eight being the maximum.
Once you’ve planted the Bastard Seed (after Luna has appraised them), you can either harvest them straight away or wait 10 minutes to let them mature and increase in power. If you don’t fancy waiting, you can always spend Emerald Flowsion to speed up the process, though it’s rare you should ever need to do so.
As for where you’ll find Bastard Seeds, they’ll show up regularly throughout your adventure: they can drop randomly from enemies, be found as collectable items, or be fused from two Bastards. They come in three rarities: Common, Rare, and Epic, though you can get some incredibly rare and powerful Legendary Bastards, but you’ll need to complete some Bastard Fusions first.
How To Fuse Bastards In Romeo Is A Dead Man
You can fuse any two Bastards with Luna, as you’ll pit them against one another in a battle to the death.
When you’re selecting your Bastards to fuse, you’ll be given a preview of the Bastard you’re creating. Depending on which ones you fuse, you can create some unique and powerful Seeds to plant, which grow immediately.
It’s a fairly simple method, but one that you should experiment with throughout the game. There are tons of combinations to make, and depending on your selection, you could stumble upon a Legendary Bastard—the most powerful types in the game.
