Hogwarts Legacy Delayed on Switch and Last-Gen Consoles

If you’ve been itching to play Hogwarts Legacy but don’t have a PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S, you may want to sit down for this one. Hogwarts Legacy has been delayed on the Nintendo Switch and last-gen systems.

The announcement came on Tuesday morning via a post on the game’s official Twitter account.

“The team is looking forward to bringing you the game and we want to deliver the best possible game experience across all platforms,” the account said.

Instead of launching on February 10, 2023, alongside the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, Hogwarts legacy will not release on April 4, 2023, for PS4 and Xbox One. Those on the Nintendo Switch will have to wait a bit longer until July 25, 2023.

No reason was given for the delays. However, it could be assumed that the game needs more time in order to run properly on older hardware. Warner Bros. Games did say that more information on Hogwarts Legacy being delayed and how it impacts things on the affected platforms will be available on the game’s FAQ page.

Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world RPG that goes back to the 1800s wizarding world. Developed by Disney Infinity developer Avalanche Software, the game sees players take on a brand new story where they experience life as a student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Players will then go on a “dangerous journey to uncover a hidden truth of the wizarding world”.

Despite using the Harry Potter lore and environment, author J.K. Rowling is not directly involved in the development of the game. That said, members of her team have collaborated on the game to make sure it is accurate to the source material.

  • Ah, well. I consider the PC version delayed to 2024 as well, thanks to the dumb decision to make part of the content exclusive to PS5.

  • So now all the rich people who can afford the newest console can play it before the other people and we’ll have 2 months+ of spoilers coming out that we have to avoid. A game this hyped should have it all released at the same time even if it’s only some (basically half) of the consoles it’s being released on that need to be pushed back. It’s not fair for everyone who preordered it and will now know everything about the game before they play it unless they don’t go on the internet for months. This is disgusting.
