Helldivers 2 was released today on PlayStation 5 and PC – but it has quickly succumbed to a series of launch issues including problems with matchmaking and connecting to the game’s servers. There are widespread reports of crashes and issues with crossplay mechanics, blocking players from connecting with their friends across the digital border between PS5 and PC platforms.
In response, the CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios, Johan Pilestedt, took to the game’s official Discord server to offer an apology and an explanation.
‘Crisis Mode’
Helldivers 2 has been subject to a series of hotfixes being desperately applied by the game’s developer just hours after it was released globally on PS5 and PC. On Discord, the developer’s CEO offered up a lengthy breakdown of the situation, with some users heralding the transparency as a welcome change from the norm:
Hey everybody! It’s been a bit of crisis mode in the studio today therefore I have not been as active as I would have liked. We are seeing the matchmaking issues as well as some of the unfortunate stuck on login screen/crashes.
I just wanted to let you all know we’re working as hard as we can on resolving these, the volume of players exposed some shenanigans in the system that went past many, many, many hours or testing.
We have tried resolving it on the backend only but it seems like we will have to patch the game to resolve the issue. Sorry for this and thank you for your patience. For now I recommend to team up with people from the community as joining friends work fine. I hope you are enjoying the experience once you get into the game.
On social media, players who can get into the game without issues report positive feedback. Unfortunately, the early problems with the game have led to 48% of the reviews for Helldivers 2 being negative on Steam. Fans are hopeful that the game will be able to bounce back from these teething issues.
