It’s no secret that AI replication is becoming increasingly easy to accomplish. We’re seeing believable news presenters divulge stories that could be true, incredibly realistic representations of celebrities endorsing products, and existing movies featuring AI-generated scenes that never actually occurred.
Fortunately, the clip I stumbled across today was much more lighthearted, much less harmful, and for fans of the game, genuinely amazing. On TikTok, a user named veovlogsz has uploaded AI-replicated, ‘real-life’ clips from the iconic opening sequences of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and they’re almost perfect.
Terrifyingly Real
The clips (assumedly) created by veovlogsz and shared on TikTok showcase the opening scenes of GTA San Andreas if Carl Johnson, the legendary protagonist, had been walking around Los Santos with an iPhone. The selfie-shot clips feature a character who looks, sounds, and behaves like CJ, flanked by ‘Big Smoke’, the notorious antagonist of the 2004 epic.
Even the game’s UI has been overlaid onto the clips, making it feel like some twisted hybrid of the game and a real-world setting.
Here’s the mindblowing clip:
Like many of the best AI replications surfacing online these days, these GTA San Andreas clips were created in Google Veo 3, a hyper-intelligent AI tool that costs around $250 per month to run. It’s limited in what it can generate right now, but I’ve seen users create ten-minute movies out of it, one clip at a time.
I’ve seen a few game-related clips on social media, but nothing comes close to how well done these GTA San Andreas AI clips are. Everything from the voice work to the cars, the backgrounds to the context, and the setting to the demeanour of the characters is on point.
