Parts of GTA 5 Source Code Leaks Online

Parts of GTA 5 source code, specifically its scripting functions have reportedly leaked online.

According to DSO Gaming, parts of the GTA 5 source code were uploaded to GitHub, but then soon after were taken down via DMCA. However, according to DSO Gaming, you can still find and download the code fairly easily.

It’s worth noting that the leaked code it’s only a part of the “source code” that you’re probably familiar with reading in headlines and it doesn’t necessarily cause a big danger to the game. In fact, some people have said that no one can really do anything with it regardless if it’s available or not, and if they can, it could just be some slight modding.

Insider Gaming reported in September that there was a “reasonable degree of certainty” that the GTA 5 source code was stolen during the Rockstar Games hack, which saw over 90 gameplay videos of GTA 6 leaking online. It’s unclear if this code originated from this hack, or not.

It’s unclear if the GTA 5 source code will be made public at a later time or not.

I’m not going to pretend that I know exactly what this leak means, because I don’t, but source code leaks are nothing new in Grand Theft Auto. In fact, around seven years ago parts of the code leaked online allowing for several years of modding which was against Rockstar Games’ policy and could result in a permanent ban.

Last week, Take-Two announced that the hack won’t have any effect on the development of GTA 6.

What do you think of some of GTA 5’s source code leaking online?
