Microsoft has filed for a new trademark for Gears of War which was first spotted by data guru Aggiornamenti Lumia on Twitter.
The new Gears of War trademark has been applied by Microsoft for use in the following categories:
- Table Top Games
- Board Games
- Card Games
- Trading Card Games
- Arcade Games
Unfortunately, the trademark does not state “video games” within the application, but the trademark could be a subtle tease as to what’s to come for the franchise.
Rumors from late 2021 by proven insider Rand al Thor suggested that The Coalition was working on Gears of War 6, but that the game wouldn’t arrive until sometime in 2024 or 2025. Another rumor from XboxEra’s Shpeshal_Nick has also suggested that a Gears of War Collection could be arriving sometime soon.
As of August 2019, the Gears of War series had sold over 41 million copies across its five games.
The Coalition (previously Black Tust Studios) took control over the Gears of War franchise in 2024 following Microsoft’s acquisition of the Gears of War franchise from Epic Games. Gears 5 was the last Gears of War title to release on September 10, 2019.
