THE INSIDER SAYS: “Seems like there’s a LOT of games sneaking out at the end of 2025 with an emphasis on Rhythm – and we love it. UNBEATABLE is doing it with a pretty slick indie soundtrack and VHS-worn anime aesthetic. Want some gaming with your music fix?”

There’s two very different experiences in UNBEATABLE – each one could stand on its own and you’d be happy with what you bought if you’re any kind of fan of rhythm games. Before going into either, let’s focus on how the game LOOKS and feels. There’s times you’ll be tempted to kick back, listen to the music, and watch what’s happening on screen. Not an indictment — it does at times feel like you’re experiencing a music-based anime. Especially when it comes to the story mode.

In Story mode, you’re exploring a town where music is outlawed and you’re a musician. The presentation is a borderline 2D / 3D anime meets Paper Mario look to it (which can make some world navigation a little odd with camera angles) and overall, is more of what might come across as an audio/visual novel. It then incorporates rhythm into the story’s presentation.

Arcade mode, on the other hand, is a straightforward, challenging, and fun 2D rhythm platformer of sorts. Frankly, it is a whole other thing and button mashing game that might make you want to also smash controllers if you jack up the difficulty.

One thing that we haven’t mentioned until this point is the actual music you’ll be moving to, which, frankly, is amazing. You’ve got a few actual albums worth of material from a variety of artists ranging from Jamie Paige, Lena Raine, MEMODEMO, DOG_NOISE, SoundCirclet, and Lumena-Tan…to name a few.

If ANY of what we described here sounds good to you, There is a demo / side story you can find on Steam: UNBEATABLE [white label], that you should definitely check out. This is one of those games you need to experience, not read about.

INSIDE LOOKS:

Here’s some choice points (and a humble request) from the devs:

  • Story Mode: 6-8 hours. Arcade Mode: UNLIMITED
  • A 100% original soundtrack
    • whole entire double album worth of original songs
    • plus acoustic versions of those songs
    • oh and also remixes, too (Depending upon the version of the game you buy)
  • You can unlock all the songs by playing the narrative OR just by playing the arcade game exclusively! Great for those who truly hate stories.
  • Please, whatever you do, the title is either all caps or no caps. Be kind to us.

UNBEATABLE is currently available on Steam for PC as well as PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
