THE INSIDER SAYS: “ If you’ve ever played the original Missile Command – or even the “Recharged” version that came out a few years back – this is definitely not THAT. In fact, it’s a complete flip, having you play a deck-based defense game as you explore a Cold War bunker. ”

Ask your parents (HELL, ask your grandparents) about Missile Command and they’ll describe feverish play sessions racing around a screen to stop bombs from dropping. Missile Command Delta throws all that out in favor of a slow, strategic, and claustrophobic gameplay.

Mighty Yell and 13AM Games have you racing around in a first person perspective, navigating this abandoned bunker, uncovering clues in what feels like a Fallout-fueled escape room. All this is happening between incoming rounds of missile attacks. Despite the slowdown from reactionary arcade gameplay, there’s still a lot of potential here to keep you at the edge of your seat…and THEN you get to the turn-based card system puzzle combat.

This is the most interesting part of the reinvention that got our attention: A hex-based digital board presented in-theme as Cold War computer monitors. Your goal is to intercept incoming targets with missiles. To launch, you need projectile “cards.” Some are ready to launch as you start, others you need to find between rounds while exploring the base and solving puzzles. The real tension comes from knowing you only have so many resources, so you’re planning out how to stack cascading solutions.

INSIDE LOOKS:

  •  The turn-based strategy game is wrapped in a twisting, narrative thriller – great for mystery fans, completionists, and players that love to explore and solve puzzles.
  • Between inbound missile alerts, investigate the underground bunker between inbound missile alerts to access locked rooms, uncover secrets, and strengthen your arsenal.
  • The devs proclaim that it’s “A totally unique strategy experience,” and we’re inclined to agree. New missile and enemy types are uncovered when you explore deeper into the bunker.

Missile Command Delta will be available on Steam for PC as well as PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch.
