THE INSIDER SAYS: “Why should Nintendo have all the rhythm game fun? While players wait what feels like FOREVER for a Rhythm Heaven sequel, a spunky indie team put together a rhythm minigame platform that looks awesome, plays well, and works right now on PC.”
This is a quick hit for a collection of musical minigames – which we are always suckers for here. Yes, Bits & Bops is a bunch of rhythm minigames bound together with a bouncy beat (the main composer’s work could be heard in places like Steven Universe: The Movie and Boomerang Fu). Yes, there’s a ton of whimsical animations here as well (The artist / animator worked on the likes of Rise of the TMNT, Monkie Kid, and Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur.
Bits & Bops is quirky, and it can be a little short right now, but the reason we want to call this game’s 1.0 launch is the customizability. While some have dug deep into third party tools to create levels for Bits & Bops (you might have seen clips on TikTok), there’s talk of an in-game editor coming post-launch to let you create your own musical mini-game madness for Bits & Bops. Congrats to the Tempo Lab Games team for the launch and if you’re curious, download the demo and bop.
