The "What got YOU into videogames" Thread :)

Could be a title or specific event. Maybe even something gradual.

For me it's twofold: PS1 & Halo.

PS1 as first console & then Halo really got me hooked as a gamer.

Obviously I've got some PS1 all-time faves but with Halo 1 never been a game that's literally & figuratively made my jaw dropped countless times.

That first level after Master Chiefs' ship crashlands alone was absolutely mind-blowing for me as a kid.

I think if I'd to compare it recently would be how Elden Ring made me feel at times especially that Siofia River elevator.

I think most if not all of us gamers can relate with each other in some form or another because of these shared experiences though they may vary it's all the same; the sense of grandeur, the fun times & even those controller-breaking moments.

That's why I believe that we all could easily interact easily with each other because of that sense of familiarity however indirectly it may seem.
Well for me it was the classical way.
A friend introduced me to it and here I am!

Been playing video games as long as I can remember. My earliest memories were OOT on the N64. Through the years growing up though I gravitated towards sports games and Call of Duty when those started releasing. For a long time that was the extent of my gaming world, just Call of Duty games and the yearly Madden/FIFA releases.

In August of 2013 our friend group that played games had started to tire of that years CoD knowing the next one was releasing in a few months, so we were looking for an alternative to play. Then a buddy of mine told me to pick up some game called The Last of Us because it had an interesting multiplayer mode. So I picked it up and playing Factions for awhile before trying out the story.

Completing that story left me questioning how I hadn't heard about this game at all. And since that moment I have followed gaming as closely as I can. From leaks to announcements to inevitable delays and releases. I can't get enough of it.
I was super late to the Last of Us party and I had the same experience - literally stared at my TV for 5 minutes as the credits rolled thinking about the amazing narrative experience I had just gone through. What a game fr fr. Have you ever played Bioshock 1 ?

My dad got me an NES for Christmas as a kid and quickly discovered it was a cheap babysitter. Park me in front of that and I wasn’t going anywhere

My gaming adventure started with the PC, as that’s all we had in the house. We had a disc called “house of Games” then it morfed into “chips challenge” then Worms Armageddon, where I finally landed on Battlefield 1942 and never looked back.. :)
