Is the PS5 Pro a daylight robbery?

I think as Tom of MLID has pointed out, since TSMC's N2 processes it's probably because they're testing the waters if they can get away with same price point with a PS6...

Makes too much sense too me; assuming a PS6 comes out in 2028 it'll probably use A16 process for the compute stuff (CPU + GPU + AI) if they do the chiploet route. Even splitting the console into seperate chiplets (IMV Compute + I/O & Memory bit bus + Stacked Cache) still has an expensive A16 compute die in their even if the other chiplets are like on say 6nm.

If the PS6 had come at 800 euros or around, I wouldn't have been so upset because I knew it was a new generation, a console I've had for at least 4-5 years, many buy a phone year after year from the price of 1000+ euros , but a console that should have been a "help" for some people who wanted PS5 to make and be so expensive, it's not normal, and neither does it come in the package.

I dunno 800 eur for a baseline home console is nuts

I don't even think that there will be cheap consoles in the future, PS6 is most likely aimed at 2027-2028, the economy will change and since Sony's competition is not doing anything, I would not be at all surprised if PS6 is at least 800 euros. I personally don't mind as long as day1 I have more than 1 or 2 games to enjoy and I can also play in 60fps minimum in quality mode, for me this is the maximum I want from a console.

I would say its a robbery but then again Microsoft is releasing an Xbox Series X - 2TB that's not a Pro version of a console for $599, so for extra $100 you get a Pro version of a PS5 console with 2TB.

Economy and Inflation, this is the new norm unfortunately fellas and don't forget you always have a choice not to buy it.

I am worried about what an eventual PS6 will cost...
That’s what I’m saying too… PS6 will obviously be more powerful than this Pro so unless the Pro doesn’t sell well at that price point we’re looking at a new normal for console pricing.

If the prices climb much higher for the next console gen, the whole pc master race/just get a pc thing becomes more and more reasonable. Magnified
progressively so by the slowing trickle of first party, exclusive offerings.

I guy I follow on Twitter that's from Sweden (if I remember correctly) said it's gonna be around $1,100 for the Pro & Disc drive 😅 holy crap
