Overall opinion on The Game Awards?

In this week's Insider Gaming newsletter, I voiced my frustration with The Game Awards allowing an expansion to be up for Game of the Year. As a fan of sports and racing games, I also have a major problem with them continuing to be treated like the unwanted stepchild of gaming.

So I want to know from you all. What are your thoughts on The Game Awards? Do you actually care about the awards or only the trailers and previews of upcoming games?

I do care somewhat, the only thing that is wrong is Elden ring SOET. It is a DLC and it shouldn't be there. As for FF7 Rebirth that game deserves a place because from FF7 to FF7 remake trilogy it has changed so much that it deserves a chance at GOTY, this trilogy is changing the story as they want so why not.

They bent the rules just to nominate a DLC. TGA is rubbish and never worth the hype

I don’t care about the awards as they mean literally nothing. I watch for the previews and “WORLD PREMIER”

Hard to call it the 'Game' Awards when we have DLC being nominated, taking the spot from a number of other well deserving games. Would it really be that difficult to have a category dedicated to DLC / Expansions?

It’s fun to have on the second monitor while playing something chill. Don’t really care about the awards at this point, especially this year, only nominee I played is Balatro and I doubt that will win.

I think they can do better indeed... But I think this year's TGA's will be decent at least overall hopefully!

All game awards are a joke because they're nothing more than a sales, advertising and marketing show. If any of them were a real awards show, it would be held in February and the entire calendar year would be included as it should be.

As for The Game Awards, it's the biggest joke of them all. They include Shadow of the Erdtree. It's not a standalone game. It's an expansion to existing base game which already had it's time two years ago. If the base game never existed, neither would the expansion.

If it wasn't for the trailers, new reveals and some release dates, there would be no reason to watch The Game Awards at all.

I pretty much just treat it as Winter Games Fest with a side of awards.
Sums it up for me too 👌 Don't bother putting too much weight on awards judged by a committee rather than general gamers.

This nonsense allowing DLC and remasters in for GOTY adds to its illegitimacy.

For me, the tipping point was last year when they rushed people off stage to bring out celebrities and have trailers. Oh, and Geoff not acknowledging the layoffs of the year. I'd hope they learned, and it's addressed right off the bat
