While the NPCs you can hire for your hard-earned Gold are unlikely to rack up eliminations, they can certainly come in handy with the support they provide through healing or ammunition, and are worth considering.

How to Hire Characters in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 1
Hiring characters has become slightly harder in Fortnite Chapter 7 as your Gold balance is no longer retained between matches, meaning you need to loot the required amount of Gold before any character can be hired.
Fortunately, Gold is a relatively easy resource to come by in Fortnite, and is available from looting chests, collecting it from eliminated players, and looting tills in various shops. If you focus on chests specifically, it won’t be long until you have what’s needed to recruit an ally.
The steps to hire a character in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 1 are shown below.
- Enter a game of Battle Royale or Zero Build.
- Collect the required amount of Gold.
- Find a character who is available to hire on the mini-map.
- Head to the character location.
- Interact with the character and select the ‘Hire’ option.
- Pay the required amount of gold.
Hired characters will remain active until you are eliminated, or they have been defeated by another player. Remember, there are only a select number of hireable characters in each match, and another player may beat you to it, so it’s advised that you head directly to the required NPC on landing.

There are five characters available to hire on the Battle Royale map in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 1, though none are found on the southern tip of the map.
Four of the hireable characters are found in pairs that are relatively close to each other, with the remaining NPC spread out further from the others.
