Foamstars, the PlayStation equivalent to Nintendo’s Splatoon but with foam, is going free-to-play. Square Enix and Sony made the announcement on Tuesday morning.
The developer announced that the game will transition to a free-to-play title starting October 4. That’s just eight months since the game’s launch on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

For those who already own Foamstars or pick it up before the game’s price change, Square Enix says it’s launching a “Legacy Gift”. This give will include the following:
- 12 exclusive color-variant Bubble Beastie skins
- 1 exclusive Slide Board design
- 1 title: “Legacy”
Lastly, with the game going free-to-play, players will no longer need a PlayStation Plus subscription to play online.
“Your continued support of Foamstars would be greatly appreciated,” Square Enix said.
They also said that details on obtaining the “Legacy Gift” will be provided on the game’s website and official Twitter account.
