Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Lets You ‘Just Explore The Entire Planet’

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation director has recently discussed the planetary-level exploration the upcoming title brings.

The final installment of the acclaimed Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy now has a release date, arriving on all platforms in April 2027. Ahead of launch, players want to learn as much as they can about Revelation, and the latest information reveals the scale of exploration players can expect from the upcoming title.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Has Planetary-Level Exploration

In conversation with IGN, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation director, Naoki Hamaguchi discussed one of the challenges he faced with the third installment having a bigger scale than Rebirth. Hamaguchi explained that the goal was to expand with each installment, which meant it grew from Remake to Rebirth and had to be a “step above” Rebirth to Revelation as well. One evolution was the level of exploration the devs could bring to the game.

One of the questions the developers asked themselves was, “How can we expand the open world?” and they finally arrived at the answer with planetary exploration. This meant having an “open-world map scale where players just really just explore the entire planet using the Highwind.” Hamaguchi also revealed that bringing this planetary-level exploration to Final Fantasy 7 Revelation was “one of the rather difficult parts of the development for sure.”

Exploring the entire planet will bring a higher level of immersion and freedom than previous games, with developers adding vertical depth alongside horizontal width, allowing players to explore using the Highwind or the Chocobo.
