For the lucky players who get access to the PTS (Public Test Server) of Fallout 76, a special treat is available right now – Skyline Valley. This is the first major map expansion to be added to the popular post-apocalyptic MMORPG since it was released in 2018, and fans are excited. It’s a sizeable update that adds an entirely new biome to the Appalachian map found in Fallout 76, and it introduces a slew of POIs, a new weather element, and of course, plenty of new quests.
What is Skyline Valley in Fallout 76?
Skyline Valley is based roughly on the Shenandoah Valley. In Fallout 76, Skyline Valley is a unique region that’s nestled between the Ash Heap and the Cranberry Bog, so it’ll be at the flat bottom of the map as you look at it dead on. What’s important is that Skyline Valley marks the first-ever map expansion in Fallout 76’s history. We’ve had out-of-map ‘Expeditions’, but this is the first time Bethesda Game Studios has expanded the base map.
Skyline Valley is the game’s nineteenth major update, and it’s set to be released in June 2024. It’s going to be a fairly game-changing update, bringing countless combat-themed changes but also a serious hit to Fallout 76’s weather system. There’s a world event that’ll pop up in the valley, bringing a tornado into play.
Three new creature archetypes will also appear with the Skyline Valley update:
- Lost
- Thrashers
- Wanamingos
In total, the Skyline Valley region will introduce a whopping 28 new points of interest for players to discover and explore. This is huge news, as the map has remained relatively unchanged (except for a few new locations) for almost six years. If you’re on Steam, you can get access to the PTS now to check out the new Skyline Valley region.
