With the recent hype surrounding the exceptional Fallout TV series, many new and returning fans flock to Fallout 4 on PS5. Unfortunately, on console, Bethesda titles tend to have a few quirks. One unfortunate bug leads to regular crashing. Here is how to fix the PS5 crashing on startup error in Fallout 4!
How to Fix PS5 Crashes in Fallout 4
This is perhaps one of the most annoying Fallout 5 PS5 errors. You have a build or a goal in mind, such as finally making it to Diamond City, but then you crash upon loading the game. Then, it happens again and again. It isn’t very pleasant! But fret not because there is a fox for the PS5 crashing on startup error in Fallout 4!
- On your PlayStation 5 main menu, hover over Fallout 4 and select “Options.”
- Choose “Manage Game Content.”
- Select “Wastelander Workshop” and “Automaton” from the Fallout 4 DLC list, then remove both.
- Relaunch the game.
It sucks that, for the time being, one of the best ways to fix the crash on startup error in Fallout 4 is to remove some of the game’s additional content. While Wastelander Workshop doesn’t add much to the experience, Automaton offers an entire questline and dungeon with plenty of loot to scoop up!

Additional Fixes for Fallout 4 Crashing on Startup
I completely understand if you’d instead not remove entire DLC packs from the game. Here are a few other potential workarounds that may resolve the problem until the next big update smooths over the performance:
- Uninstall and reinstall Fallout 4 on your PS5.
- Reboot the system.
- Check for a system update.
Again, these aren’t guaranteed solutions. Obviously, uninstalling and reinstalling the game, which sits at approximately 30 GB on PS5, seems dreadful to those with a slower internet connection.
Here’s to hoping one of the above fixes solves your problem so that you may enjoy the post-apocalyptic Commonwealth!
