Recently, CD Projekt Red revealed that the team working on Orion, the follow-up to 2020’s Cyberpunk 2077, had been bolstered by some high-profile industry professionals. Following that news, a series of job listings surfaced on CDPR’s careers platform, revealing some low-level details about the now in-production sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.
Shaping Up
Fans of Cyberpunk 2077 have huge expectations for the sequel, given how sublime the first game turned out to be after years of post-launch development and polishing. Last year, ‘Cyberpunk 2.0’ was released, effectively resurfacing the game and making it feel like something entirely different – and much better than it ever was.
In the job listings posted by CDPR, several minor details have been revealed about Orion:
- Cutscenes and ‘movie sequences’ will be ’emotional and bursting with action’
- Crafting mechanics return from Cyberpunk 2077
- Open-world events (assumedly more than in Cyberpunk 2077) will be focused on
- It potentially has multiple maps, per a mention of creating ‘breathtaking worlds‘
- Dialogue scenes and gameplay will blend seamlessly together
It’s not a lot to go on, but it’s a start. At present, almost nothing is known about the inner workings of Orion, including where and when it’ll be set, what story it’ll follow, and what the core mechanics of the game will be. It’s widely assumed that it won’t be too far removed from the foundations laid with Cyberpunk 2077, as CDPR ultimately got the formula right with that game.
