CSGO Returns to Steam and Pulls In Thousands of Players

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the game that defined an esports generation, has resurfaced on Steam for the first time since September 2023, when Counter-Strike 2 arrived on the scene. CSGO has made a bold return with its own Steam Store page, but it’s not as easy as just searching for it and uncovering it through the platform’s repository.

While you could navigate to CSGO via Counter-Strike 2, this marks the first time in almost three years that the game has boasted a native store page on Valve’s all-digital platform.

Oh, and there’s another caveat. Just because the game is back on the store, that doesn’t mean the official servers are back up.7

How to Find CSGO on Steam

Since September 2023 and the launch of Counter-Strike 2, you’ve only been able to explore CSGO, the legendary game that topped the charts for a decade, via the legacy branch housed in CS2.

At some point in the last day or two, Valve added Counter-Strike: Global Offensive back onto the store, but per a message on the listing, kept it absent from search results. That means that, while you won’t see CSGO in search results, you can still navigate to the page and install the game just fine.

So, how can you find CSGO on Steam? The easiest way is to click this link and head straight to the game’s store page.

The game, which at the time of writing boasted Overwhelmingly Positive reviews, can now be tracked via data aggregation platforms.

At the time of publishing, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive boasted more than 47,500 players. It’s a far cry from the game’s all-time high that numbers closer to the two million mark, but it’s indicative of a resurgence driven by the new CSGO store listing.

For a decade, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was the number one esports title, supporting a worldwide competitive phenomenon worth tens of millions of dollars. It also facilitated the creation of a ‘skins market’ that was, at one point, worth $5 billion. It moved over in September 2023 to make room for Counter-Strike 2, which has been the top-tier title since.
