A fresh adventure awaits in Code Vein 2, as does heaps of frustration. The 2026 Soulslike sequel carries on the Code Vein name with an entirely new story, so let’s see if a new story equals a new approach to gameplay with co-op and multiplayer u-turns.
2019’s Code Vein was built with multiplayer and co-op elements in mind. It shared a lot in common with FromSoftware and other Souls games by allowing you to summon help and offer your services to players in need. This mutual ability to offer a helping hand helped the original’s popularity, but it doesn’t mean Code Vein 2 has to follow suit.
Does Code Vein 2 Have Multiplayer?
This time around, Code Vein 2 doesn’t have an integrated multiplayer system, allowing you to team up with online players and take on bosses together.
You might have seen a lot of Code Vein 2’s pre-release material showing two characters traveling together. This is merely an AI companion who assists you, but there’s no wiggle room allowing another human user to take their place, or allow you to engage in battles with another human player.
This is a fairly drastic change compared to the first game.
Does Code Vein 2 Have Co-op?
Code Vein 2 also doesn’t have any sort of online or offline co-op, meaning it’s a single-player-only game.
For whatever reason, Bandai has gone in a completely different direction with the game’s real-life player capabilities. Code Vein 1 encouraged and had co-op and multiplayer features, whereas Code Vein 2 distances itself from either concept.
You can check the game’s Steam page for further evidence. Code Vein 2 is listed as “Single-player,” and there will be zero multiplayer options at launch. Does this rule out co-op or minor multiplayer modes post-launch? Only time will tell.
If there’s enough negative feedback or plenty of desire from the community to see co-op or multiplayer, Bandai might add the option and perhaps allow you to control the AI character instead.
