Golden Axe, the classic arcade and console game from SEGA, is getting its own TV show on Comedy Central. The new animated show has seen a 10-episode order from the network.
The cast for Golden Axe includes Matthew Rhys, Danny Pudi, Liam McIntyre, Lisa Gilroy, and Carl Tart. The show will have Mike McMahan from Solar Opposites and Joe Chandler from American Dead executive produce the series. SEGA Sammy president and CEO Haruki Satomi, SEGA Corp COO and president Shuji Utsumi, and Toru Nakahara will also help executive produce the show.
The show’s synopsis reads:
“In a hilarious and loving homage to Sega’s 1989 video game series, Golden Axe follows veteran warriors Ax Battler, Tyris Flare and Gilius Thunderhead as they once again battle to save Yuria from the evil giant Death Adder who just won’t seem to stay dead. Fortunately, this time they have the inexperienced and underprepared Hampton Squib on their side.”
As far as the characters go, Rhys will voice Gilius Thunderhead, a battle dwarf with “poor hygiene and a chip on his shoulder.” Pudi voices Hampton Squib, “a naive, inexperienced first time adventurer who has dreamt of questing his entire life”.
Gilroy plays Tyris Flare, a battle sorceress who is “deadly in a fight and even deadlier with her sharp wit.” McIntyre plays Ax Battler, a barbarian warrior who abides by a code of honor while also having a “sweet golden retriever demeanor”.
Lastly, Tart plays Golden Axe III character Chronos “Evil” Lait, a humanoid panther.
As of publishing, there’s no confirmed release date for Golden Axe on Comedy Central.

Just sounds awful. Sega should bring Shenmue The Animation back, Sonic X, and make a Yakuza anime.
